This is Elaine Hansen - one of the co-hosts of the Global Conversation. Since our call ended, I have been wondering if there is another Global Conversation to have with "The Gifts of Imperfection."? There are a couple of topics that have bubbled up for me. #1 - I wanted to let you know that you will be receiving an invitation to my next venture, "HeartWork". It will combine elements from the Global Conversation by hosting two conference calls plus other virtual elements centered around "The Gifts of Imperfection...
Nearly 3 weeks gone by since the Global Conversations. What an adventure it was! Long before the actual day of the event, we felt the excitement, the energy, and the power of connection with people around the world, most of whom were strangers to each other and yet, it’s as if they were neighbors, dear friends or close colleagues. The buzz before, during and after the event was magical. It still is. In creating this project with others, I felt drawn to the power of Brene Brown’s work and how it invites a coming...
I ran across this interview with Brene. The part where Brene talks about having had anxiety attacks around play - started me thinking about what I deny myself because I have some since of "un" worthiness about it or guilt or shame. In my family, my mom was adamant there would be no play if you had not done your work. Can't even remember when that phrase was not part of me. Now, no matter how much work I have done, it never seems like enough to qualify me for "play". Play is a guilty pleasure for me. And here...
Because I have become immersed into The Gifts of Imperfection - I am seeing gifts everywhere. John McKnight taught me a gift is not a gift until it is given - BUT I want to take that a little further - a gift is not a gift until someone receives it. A wonderful book sitting in my closet waiting for me to mail it...does not make it a gift. The elder gentlemen reminds me of a gift I have taken for granted too many times - that I can turn the water faucet - and clean, drinkable water comes out. Everyday in our...
Summary Report captured by Joanne Mantha, a topic initiated by John Young, with Dani from Buffalo also participating Dr. Brown’s book makes so much sense. I am doing a lot yet I feel that it should be easier. What’s keeping me?I know what to do but I feel in conflict when I find that there is a part of me that embraced imperfection and another part of me that is very perfectionist. If you ask me on the surface: Are you a perfectionist? I would say no! Yet if I look more: I really care about what others think...
Summary notes captured by Joanne Mantha:Our culture invites us to perform better and become better. Image of starting with more intimate circles at being vulnerable and then working at widening it.First step is being conscious of the situation.Logical we know how to accept others. What’s stopping us from implementing to us.I found that starting with the statement ‘I’ and share my feelings about a situation, it helps me to bring out my vulnerability more.I feel this too and see how it’s good to do it that way instead...
Hi this is Elaine - from a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio - USA. I'm one of the co-creators of the Global Conversation. I came to Brene's work because I am an avid TED Talks fan. When I saw her talk, "The Power of Vulnerability" - What she shared resonated deep inside of me. She gave me language to explain and understand shame and how I had begun my walk out of it 33 years before. I am grateful that I have developed shame resiliency over these last 33 years and a passion for everyone to have it. (When you are...
The Global Conversation project featuring Brené Brown’s work was a gift, a gift that feels like it will never stop giving. The joy, love, connection and community that our team experienced in planning this event are indescribable. Seeing the invitation go viral and feeling the excitement of people wanting to join was also beyond words. We knew that people were hungry for the types of conversation that Brené Brown invites. Being there in the magic of this virtual event, witnessing the power of conversations between...

I was not put into any of the groups the second time round so I did as the facilitator instructed - used that time for reflection, drop down some notes. As a result I felt that feeling vulnerable makes...
